Super Bowl Pizza Sales

Last Update: 2/03 7:20 pm

Super Bowl Sunday is one of the five busiest days of the year for pizza parlors, and they're stocking-up and staffing-up in preparation.

It was calm inside Woodstock's Pizza in Downtown Chico Friday afternoon, but come Sunday the restaurant is expected to  fill to capacity ... 170 people watching the game on six screens, and taking advantage of super deals.

Manager Jeff Davis says, "We're running a Super Bowl special ...  Happy hour all day plus all you can eat pizza by the slice for $6.99. It's a great deal."

The American Restaurant Association reports pizza remains a good deal, at a time when the cost of hamburgers, tortilla chips and chicken wings are all going up.  Davis credits stiff competition in the pizza business, but he's confident he'll pack the place come Sunday ... not to mention all the deliveries!

"we order extra cheese, pepperoni, sausage, the staples. And we'll probably have six to seven more people on to help for the day," says Davis.

He also told us that if you want a pizza delivered on game day you should allow at least 45 minutes to an hour. And, Woodstock's offers what's called deferred delivery ... you can call your order in now and have it delivered any time you want.

Don't forget the chicken wings! An estimated 125 billion wings will be consumed this weekend.  With the average Super Bowl party host spending between 50 to 100 dollars on food, it's no surprise this savvy industry is looking to cash-in, come kick-off.

Davis tells us, "Nationally 12 million people are gonna go to the pizza parlor. It's the number one food on football day."

Nationally, Halloween, New Years Eve, New Years Day, and Thanksgiving Eve round out the top five business days for pizza joints. Locally, Chico State University's graduation weekend ranks right up there as well. ###
