The phenomenon that is Aaron Rodgers' growing popularity among NFL football fans and popular sports culture worked it's way back to Chico once again.
This time the National Football League's own network jumped aboard the Rodgers bandwagon.
It was just another ordinary day at Pleasant Valley High. That is until 10:30am, when all the sudden the NFL network blitzed the school.
"I think everyone is excited having them on campus," said Pleasant Valley High Principal John Shepherd.
The reason they're here? Former Viking Aaron Rodgers. The NFL network is doing a story on the hometown hero and his influence on Chico, a place that seems to be adopting Green Bay as it's favorite NFL team.
"Twenty miles west of Paradise is Green Bay West, you wouldn't expect it in Chico. It seems that it transcends hometown boy makes good to where we like his team too, it seems like that's the way it is. The support is pretty obvious," said NFL network reporter Steve Cyphers.
Ross Engstrom, a PV alum and Chico State student is one of the stars in the feature story. He's a die-hard Packers fan and you've probably seen him driving around town in his Green Bay volkswagen bug.
"It's a 1973 bug, we just restored it last year, me and my father. He's had it since he was a senior in high school, so it's a lot of fun, it brings a smile to all of the people's faces," said Engstrom.
"Did you ever think in a million years that you'd be contacted by a National network to do a story on your bug?" Ross Field asked.
"Never, it's quite amazing," added Engstrom.
PV isn't the only stop for the NFL network crew. They'll talk with Aaron's father Ed and they shot the hometown crowd cheering for the Packers at The Graduate on Sunday. Cyphers says the story is scheduled to air on January 15th prior to the Packers playoff game.
"I think what I appreciate the most about this whole situation is NFL films and NFL network recognize that it's a group effort, it's his parents, it's his schools, it's the community he's involved in, all of it, it's rewarding," said Shepherd.
